Why Does My Lawn Have So Many Dry Spots?  - Adams Landscaping, Inc.

8/4/2021

We’re at the peak of summer, and we can definitely feel the heat, which will continue into the fall.  Lawns everywhere are showing dry spots. When this happens, the first thing we tend to do is either ramp up the time on our irrigation controller or break out the hose to drown out the dry spots. Unless you want to spend the rest of the summer standing for hours watering your lawn by hand, now is a great time to perform an irrigation audit, which we’ve outlined below in three easy steps:

1)   Check for and repair any broken sprinklers or broken/clogged nozzles. Make sure each sprinkler sprays in an even pattern.
2)   Measure the distance between each sprinkler. Depending on the type of sprinkler and nozzle size, the sprinklers may need to be spread out every six, ten, or even 15 feet. Whatever the distance should be, make sure every sprinkler is spaced out evenly for even coverage.
3)   Make any necessary adjustments.

You may need to move a few sprinkler heads or change the size or orientation of some nozzles. Once everything is working the way it should be, you’ll be glad you spent the extra time to fix it all. For additional help, we recommend consulting with a trained or certified irrigation technician.
